'Say it with Flowers' - I made this for the Quilters' Guild 'In the Spotlight 2011'. This is representing our region, region three, at the Guild's stand at the Festival of Quilts this year. The theme was 'romance in words', with Jane Austen as the muse. I chose to focus on the period Jane Austen wrote, the Regency Period, and chose colours, fabrics and embellishments that reflected the textiles of the era - silks, velvets, lace and beads. The background is made from 2" squares machine peiced together. The flower is hand appliqued with 'fake' trapunto and hand quilted and embellished. The background is free machined quite heavily. The card is a quote - 'If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.' Jane Austen, 'Emma', 1815. Its size is 39" x 50" and took 650 hours to complete!
