Minutes of Annual General Meeting

1  Election of Officers

Hazel informed the members that Gillian Clarke had stepped down from the Committee and that Gillian Redman was no longer the keyholder.  Hazel also informed the members that as only one member, Angela Fitzgerald, came forward to join the Committee there was no need for elections. Angela has joined the Committee without portfolio and Judith Chapman had agreed to become the key holder.

 

2  Financial Report

Debs informed the members of the following:

 

Total Income for 2010/11:  £2,134.20

Expenditure:

Rent  £302.08

Speakers/Workshops  £1,119.27

Insurance  £78.40

Donation in lieu of flowers (Anna)  £100.00

Other  £622.07 (Inc quilt stands, challenge fabric, AGM food, prizes and thank you's, exhibition poles and hooks)

 

Bank balance on Statement dated 14.07.11:  £925.81

 

Business Saver Account (as per last statement dated 01.11.10):  £500.38

 

3        Membership Update

Cherie informed the members that there were currently 76 members.  Cherie also informed the members that the membership fee of £22 will stay the same as it has done for the last four years.

4  2011/2012 Programme

In Jackie's absence, Hazel informed the members of next year's programme:

20 September 2011 - Jill Flower is going to talk about her 'Ruffs'.

18 October 2011 - Sewing Evening with Izzy from Creative Quilting.

 

15 November 2011 - United Quilters - a show and tell.

 

13 December 2011 - Christmas Party.

 

17 January 2012 - Sue Dawson will come and talk about her quilts. 

 

21 February 2012 - Sewing Evening with Running Chicken.

 

20 March 2012 - Philippa Naylor.

 

21 March 2012 - Day workshop with Philippa Naylor.

 

17 April 2012 - The Hat Box collection from NHQ.

 

15 May 2012 – Sandie Lush.

 

16 May 2012 – Workshop with Sandie Lush.

 

19 June 2012 - Maggie Relph with her African Fabrics.

 

20 June 2012 – Workshop with Maggie Relph.

 

17 July 2012 - Summer AGM.

Hazel informed members that bookings for the workshops will open at the January meeting.

 

7 Charity

Hazel presented Cherie and Sarah from Stepping Stones, VGQs 2010/2011 charity, with a cheque for £260.00.  Sarah and Cherie said their thanks you's and a few words about the charity and how the money will be used, specifically toward the training and speech therapy programmes the charity provides.

 

Cathy informed the members about the charity chosen for 2011/12 – Mind.  Cathy explained this charity was chosen as mental health problems were very common and many of the members will have been touched by it in some way. 

8 Farnham Maltings Exhibition 2012 – 'The Life That We Sew'

Hazel informed the members that we would be having the Tinsdale Room at the Maltings on 15 January 2012, in which we would hold VGQs first exhibition.  Hazel informed the members that in addition to entering any quilt or 3D object, there would be a themed competition – 'The Life That We Sew', in honour of Anna Jenkins.  The quilts for this competition need to be 3 layers, and 10” x 40”. Hazel informed the members that the finished quilts, complete with a 4” hanging sleeve, need to be brought to the December meeting.  Forms to enter a quilt including the themed competition will be emailed out in September.

 

Hazel also informed the members that Lois Bellow will be judging 1st, 2nd and 3rd from the themed competition, with rosettes and prizes being awarded to the winners.  In addition, Anna's husband Kevin will choose his favourite and a rosette and prize is available to win for this too.

 

Hazel informed members that all the quilts entered will be open to the Visitor's Choice rosette and prize.

 

9 Thank You's

Hazel informed the members that Gillian Clarke would receive a thank you card and bundle of fabric for her contribution to the Committee.

 

Margareta, Coral and Angela were each presented with bundles of fabric for their help providing tea and coffee and helping to set up every month.

 

Gillian Redman was presented with a bundle of fabric for her help as Keyholder.
